945 - How do our kidneys filter waste from our blood?
Imagine your kidneys as filters for your blood. They help clean your body by removing bad stuff you don't need. Here's how they work:
- Blood from your body goes into your kidneys through special tiny tubes called 'arteries'.
- Inside your kidneys, the blood passes through tiny filters called 'nephrons'. These filters have tiny holes that block the bad stuff.
- Your kidneys then decide what's good to keep (like water, nutrients, and oxygen) and what's bad to remove (like waste and extra water).
- The good stuff goes back into your body through other tubes called 'veins'.
- The bad stuff goes into your urine, which then leaves your body when you go to the bathroom.
Your kidneys are like superheroes, filtering about 200 liters of blood every day to keep you healthy and strong!
