932 - How does the human heart work, and why is it so important?
The human heart is like a powerful pump that helps keep us alive. Here's how it works:
- The heart has four chambers: The upper two are called atria, and the lower two are called ventricles.
- When the heart beats, it squeezes and relaxes in a special rhythm.
- The heart takes in deoxygenated blood from the body through the atria.
- The blood then moves to the ventricles, which pump it to the lungs to pick up oxygen.
- After that, the oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the lungs back to the heart.
- Finally, the heart sends the oxygen-rich blood to all parts of the body through a network of blood vessels.
The heart is so important because it:
- Supplies our body with oxygen and nutrients from the food we eat
- Keeps our organs and tissues working properly
- Helps remove waste products from the body
Without a healthy heart, our body wouldn't be able to function properly.
