Leaves have different shapes to help plants adapt to their surroundings and environment. The shape of a leaf can affect how much sunlight it gets, how much water it loses, and how strong the wind can blow it.

Different shapes also help plants:

• Absorb sunlight: wide leaves let in more sunlight.
• Save water: pointy leaves or ones with waxy coatings help plants keep water.
• Resist wind: strong, narrow leaves can withstand strong winds.

Each leaf shape is a special adaptation to where the plant lives, like a superpower to help the plant grow and survive.
