80 - Why do leaves have different shapes?
Leaves have different shapes to help plants adapt to their surroundings and environment. The shape of a leaf can affect how much sunlight it gets, how much water it loses, and how strong the wind can blow it.
Different shapes also help plants:
- Absorb sunlight: wide leaves let in more sunlight.
- Save water: pointy leaves or ones with waxy coatings help plants keep water.
- Resist wind: strong, narrow leaves can withstand strong winds.
Each leaf shape is a special adaptation to where the plant lives, like a superpower to help the plant grow and survive.
