68 - How does a seed grow into a plant?

A seed growing into a plant is an amazing process. Here's how it happens:

  1. The seed gets water: When a seed gets enough water, it starts to soften and break open. This is called 'germination'.
  2. A tiny root grows: The seed sends down a small root into the soil to find more water and nutrients.
  3. A tiny sprout grows: At the same time, a small sprout (called a 'seedling') starts to grow upwards, reaching for the sunlight.
  4. The seedling gets bigger: As the root finds more water and nutrients, the sprout grows into a small plant. The leaves start to photosynthesize (make food from sunlight), and the plant gets stronger.
  5. The plant keeps growing: With roots, leaves, and sunlight, the plant grows into the beautiful, strong plant you see today!

That's the basic process of how a tiny seed can grow into a magnificent plant.
