628 - How do light bulbs produce light?

A light bulb produces light when electricity makes a tiny wire (called a filament) inside the bulb very hot. This hot wire glows, creating light.

Here's how it works:

  1. Electricity flows into the bulb.
  2. The electricity heats up the filament (a thin metal wire) until it's super hot.
  3. When the filament gets really hot, it starts to glow.
  4. As the filament glows, it creates light that we can see.

That's the basic idea behind how a light bulb works.
