625 - What are renewable sources of electricity, and why are they important?

Renewable sources of electricity are ways to make power that don't run out and don't harm the planet. There are four main types:

  1. Solar Power: Energy from the sun is used to generate electricity. We use solar panels to catch the sun's rays and turn them into power.
  2. Wind Power: Energy from the wind is used to turn big turbines, which then generate electricity.
  3. Hydro Power: Energy from water, like rivers or oceans, is used to turn turbines and make electricity.
  4. Geothermal Power: Energy from the Earth's heat is used to generate electricity.

These sources are important because:

Using renewable sources of electricity helps keep our planet clean and safe for us and future generations.
