601 - What is biodiversity, and why should we protect it?

Biodiversity is like a big team of different living things on Earth, including plants, animals, and even tiny microorganisms. Just like how a soccer team needs many players with different skills, Earth needs many different living things to keep it healthy.

Protecting biodiversity is important because:

  1. It helps keep our air and water clean.
  2. It provides us with food, like fruits and vegetables.
  3. It gives us medicine from plants and animals.
  4. It makes our planet look beautiful and interesting.
  5. It helps keep the Earth's climate stable.

Imagine if all the different players on the soccer team left, and only one player remained. The game wouldn't be very fun or exciting, right? That's what would happen if we lost biodiversity. So, we need to protect and take care of all the different living things on Earth.
