Science Common Sense
599 - What are renewable and non-renewable resources?
Imagine you have two kinds of piggy banks where you save money.
- Renewable resources are like a magic piggy bank that fills up again on its own after you use some money. These resources can be replenished naturally over time, such as:
- Sunlight (we use it for solar power)
- Wind (we use it for windmills)
- Water (we use it for hydroelectric power)
Trees (we plant new ones to replace the ones we cut down)
Non-renewable resources, on the other hand, are like a regular piggy bank that empties forever once you use all the money. These resources take a very long time to form and will eventually run out, such as:
- Oil (used for cars and other machines)
- Coal (used for electricity and heating)
- Natural gas (used for heating and cooking)
We should try to use renewable resources as much as possible to save the Earth and make sure we have enough resources for the future.
