550 - What is the role of the immune system in protecting our bodies?
The immune system is like a superhero for your body. It helps protect you from getting sick or hurt by fighting against bad things like:
- Germs (bacteria, viruses, and fungi)
- Toxins (poisons)
- Other invaders that can harm you
When these bad things enter your body, your immune system sends special soldiers called white blood cells to fight them off. These soldiers can:
- Eat up the germs
- Make special chemicals to kill them
- Alert other parts of your body to send more help
The immune system also remembers the bad things it fought, so if they come back, it can recognize them and fight them off even faster. This is why you might not get sick as easily if you've had a certain sickness before.
So, the immune system is like a strong defense team that keeps you healthy and safe from harm.
