42 - How does photosynthesis occur?

Photosynthesis is how plants, algae, and some bacteria make their food. It happens in three main steps:

  1. They use energy from sunlight to power the process.
  2. They absorb water through their roots and a gas called carbon dioxide from the air.
  3. They use this energy, water, and carbon dioxide to create a sugar that gives them energy and oxygen that they release into the air.

So, in short, plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make their food (sugar) and oxygen for us.
