412 - How do sea turtles navigate during migration?

Sea turtles have an amazing built-in navigation system. They use a combination of things to migrate to their favorite beaches and feeding grounds.

  1. Magnetic field: They can sense the Earth's magnetic field, like a big invisible map, to guide them.
  2. Sun and stars: They use the sun and stars to know the direction they're going.
  3. Smell: They remember the smell of their birthplace and the ocean around it, which helps them find their way back.
  4. Visual cues: They recognize landmarks like shape of the coast, coral reefs, or islands.

All of these things together help sea turtles navigate during their long migrations. It's like they have a built-in GPS system.
