228 - What are the different types of waves?
There are two main types of waves:
- Mechanical Waves: These need a physical medium (like water, air, or a string) to move. They can be further divided into:
- Longitudinal waves: Where particles move back and forth (like sound waves).
Transverse waves: Where particles move up and down (like water waves or light waves on a string).
Electromagnetic Waves: These don't need a physical medium and can travel through a vacuum. Examples include:
- Radio waves
- Microwaves
- Infrared light
- Visible light
- Ultraviolet light
- X-rays
- Gamma rays
