228 - What are the different types of waves?

There are two main types of waves:

  1. Mechanical Waves: These need a physical medium (like water, air, or a string) to move. They can be further divided into:
  2. Longitudinal waves: Where particles move back and forth (like sound waves).
  3. Transverse waves: Where particles move up and down (like water waves or light waves on a string).

  4. Electromagnetic Waves: These don't need a physical medium and can travel through a vacuum. Examples include:

  5. Radio waves
  6. Microwaves
  7. Infrared light
  8. Visible light
  9. Ultraviolet light
  10. X-rays
  11. Gamma rays
