189 - What is an oxidation-reduction reaction?

An oxidation-reduction reaction (or redox) is when two things trade electrons.

Imagine you have an apple and a rusty nail. The apple gets eaten away (that's oxidation) and the rusty nail gets a shiny layer back (that's reduction). They both happen at the same time.
