1756 - What is the Brønsted-Lowry acid-base theory?
The Brønsted-Lowry acid-base theory is an important idea in chemistry that helps us understand what acids and bases are.
According to this theory, an acid is a substance that donates (gives away) a tiny particle called a hydrogen ion (H+), and a base is a substance that accepts (takes) this hydrogen ion.
For example, when you mix lemon juice (an acid) with baking soda (a base), the acid donates its hydrogen ion to the base, and this makes a new substance. This theory helps us understand lots of different chemical reactions and is really useful in chemistry.
