170 - What happens to molecules when they are heated?

When molecules are heated, they start moving really fast and spread out. Imagine you're in a classroom and everyone is sitting close together, but then someone turns up the music and you all start dancing and moving around. That's kind of what happens to molecules when they're heated - they gain energy and start moving faster and farther apart.
