1622 - What is genetic diversity?
Genetic diversity means having many different kinds of genes or traits within a group of living things, like a species or a population.
Imagine you have a big box of crayons with many different colors. Each color represents a different gene. If you only have a few colors, your drawings will be limited, but if you have many colors, you can make many different and interesting drawings.
In the same way, when a group of living things has many different genes, it helps them adapt to changes in their environment and makes them stronger and healthier. This is called genetic diversity.
