156 - Why do metals conduct electricity?

Metals conduct electricity because they have free electrons that can move around easily. Imagine the electrons as tiny balls that can roll around in the metal. When a metal has free electrons, it's like having a lot of balls that can move and carry electricity from one end to the other.

In metals, the electrons on the outside of the atoms are not stuck to the atom. This allows them to move freely, and when a voltage (like a battery) is applied, these free electrons start moving, creating electricity.
