Science Common Sense

1447 - What regularity in hereditary phenomena did Mendel deduce from his experiment?

Gregor Mendel, a scientist, did experiments on pea plants. He found a regular pattern in how traits (like flower color, plant height, etc.) are passed from parents to their offspring.

Mendel deduced two main regularities:

  1. The Law of Segregation: Each trait has two versions (like red flowers or white flowers). One version can hide the other, but not disappear.
  2. The Law of Independent Assortment: Traits are inherited independently of each other. For example, the color of flowers doesn't affect the height of the plant.

These laws help us understand how living things inherit traits from their parents.
