133 - What are the effects of deforestation?
Deforestation is when we cut down or clear forests, usually to make way for cities, roads, or farms. The effects of deforestation are:
- Loss of homes for animals: Many animals live in forests and lose their homes when they're cut down.
- Climate change: Trees help clean the air by taking in bad stuff and making oxygen. Without trees, the air gets worse and it gets harder for us to breathe.
- Less water: Trees help make rain by releasing water into the air. Without them, we might not get enough water.
- Soil erosion: Trees hold the soil together with their roots. Without them, the soil gets washed or blown away.
- Reduced medicine: Many medicines come from plants that live in forests. If we cut down the forests, we might lose these medicines.
So, it's really important for us to take care of the forests and try to save them.
