The respiratory system is like a delivery truck that brings oxygen into the body and takes away the bad stuff, called carbon dioxide.

• We breathe in (inhale) oxygen from the air into our lungs.
• The oxygen is then sent to the rest of our body through the bloodstream.
• At the same time, the bloodstream brings back the bad carbon dioxide to the lungs.
• We breathe out (exhale) the carbon dioxide, removing it from our body.
