1110 - What are the three states of water and capillary effects?
Imagine water can be in three states:
Solid (Ice): When it's really cold, water turns into ice. Think of ice cubes in your freezer.
Liquid (Water): When it's not too cold or hot, water is a liquid, like the water you drink.
Gas (Water Vapor): When it's really hot, water turns into a gas called water vapor. You see this when you take a hot shower and the mirror fogs up.
Now, about the capillary effect: Imagine a straw. When you stick it in water, the water climbs up the straw without you sucking on it. This is because the water molecules are attracted to the straw's tiny holes. This attraction is called capillary action. It's like the straw is 'drinking' the water.
