1081 - What are the properties of matter that change with temperature?
As temperature changes, the following properties of matter can change:
- Volume: Most things expand (get bigger) when heated and shrink when cooled.
- Shape: Some things change shape when heated or cooled, like metals that melt or bend.
- State: Matter can change from solid to liquid (melting) or from liquid to gas (evaporation) when heated, and from gas to liquid (condensation) or from liquid to solid (freezing) when cooled.
- Color: Some materials can change color when heated or cooled.
- Rigidity: Some materials become softer or more flexible when heated and harder when cooled.
- Viscosity (thickness): Liquids can become thinner (less viscous) when heated and thicker when cooled.
These are some of the main properties of matter that change with temperature.
