1073 - Why does matter have weight and occupy volume on Earth?
Matter has weight on Earth because of the Earth's gravity. Gravity is a force that pulls everything towards each other. Since the Earth is a big, heavy object, its gravity pulls everything on or near its surface, including you, towards itself. That's why things have weight.
Matter occupies volume because it's made up of tiny particles called atoms, and these atoms take up space. Imagine a box of balls. Even though the balls are separate, they still take up space in the box. Similarly, the atoms in matter are like the balls, and they take up space too. That's why matter occupies volume.
