1067 - Why do volcanoes erupt?

Volcanoes erupt because of the pressure that builds up inside the Earth. Melted rock, called magma, forms deep under the ground. When there's too much magma, it tries to find a way out. As more magma rises, the pressure gets stronger, eventually breaking through the volcano's surface, causing an eruption.
